Queen Reminders, Wear the Crown👑

DreamBuilding Remix

Crown.

Hey Queens, I wanted to personally share a quick reminder/takeaways from 3 books I've recently read. They're all completely different but gave me so much life when I thought about readjusting my crown. Here are a few things these great reads left me with.

1.The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo by Amy Shumer

While I had no idea what I was getting myself into, I found myself more intrigued with this read. Amy Shumer is a pretty dope comedian. I dig sarcasm so I'm a fan. I made a pact with myself earlier this year to start reading out of my comfort zone so that everything on my desk isn't a "self help"or "entrepreneurship" read. So I grabbed Shumer's book and fell deep. A little raunchy, a whole lotta raw. Shumer's blatant and blunt approach to her take on her past, present and future is inviting and refreshing. She's a woman held by no societal standards and she takes you on a journey of growing, loving, laughing and reaching acceptance of the "real" her. As we adjust our crowns daily, I remind you all to be raw. Stand up for yourself, for what you believe in and for others. Be honest and transparent and invite hard dealings into your life. Build character, grow tremendously, overcome situations and transform the world around you. Be the girl with the lower back tat (tramp stamp right!) who is bold, vivacious, colorful, a queen but also a mistake making, sometimes insecure, classy but can get a lil ratchet, WOMAN. Be that. Embrace that. Crown.

2.Year of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand In the Sun and Be Your Own Person by Shonda Rhimes-

Now there is sooooooo much I can say about this read. As a Shondaland fan I knew from jump that this read would be one I'd start passing around. As a fellow writer I literally could pull apart characters of her shows within this book. Now thats powerful writing. It's in her being. The title tells all but you get even more than that as you journey through Shonda's coming out of her shell. Taking a year of yes to do the unusual transformed her life and set her on a new path. A path of courageous, shameless, self-worth. Shonda is new and improved and being present for herself and those around her. As we tilt our crowns, we have to be present and remember to take moments to live. There are so many little moments that pass us by but are presented as opportunities to enjoy. We all need to take the time to dance, sing, pamper and affirm ourselves for being fearfully and wonderfully made. We are goddesses, princesses, queens, hell it's our birth right that we hold these crowns high and never let them tarnish. What's holding you back from any area in your life. Take a year to say yes to yourself, to others and to your "true you" waiting to break free. Hold your crown as you fly above everything else. Crown.

3. The Power of Broke: How Empty Pockets, a Tight Budget, and a Hunger for Success Can Become Your Greatest Competitive Advantage-

I knew Daymond John would come through with great business advice. As an entrepreneur it is my life's mission to continue to self develop and learn, learn, learn. We all know Daymond from FUBU and the infamous Shark Tank tv show. This read dug deep and took us back to his early days of "Hunger". The fiery passion Daymond had for success was worth more than any amount of money could ever be presented. It's an unmatched feeling and drive that can't be duplicated. You either have it or you don't. This read was awesome and really got me to thinking about all my fellow girl bosses. We spend a lot of time doing and doing and doing but we forget that we have to go back to why we started in the first place to realize where we're headed. I would absolutely suggest as we adjust those crowns, that we remember the passion of it all. The hunger for success and the power of limited resources help you realize that a true love, passion, and fire is dwelling on the inside. Let's 1) band together and rally in love and support to one another and 2) stay hungry. We're successful because we have that hunger. We're multitaskers, we don't quit, we don't back down. We have the superpower to keep going even when there's nothing left. We're dynamic. Phenomenal and powerful. Passionate, hungry and powerful. Remember that. Crown.

Let's recap:

Embrace the raw and real you

Say yes to you and treat you as you deserve

Stay hungry, stay passionate.

Live.
