Tea & Triumph☕️

On this episode of Tea & Triumph I got an awesome chance to catch up with a mover & shaker taking the Marketing World by storm. I’m super excited to share her spills and thrills as she invites us in to chat. I present to you Aleshia Patterson the Chief Marketing Strategist of the Aleshia Simone Consulting Group.

Me: Hi Aleshia! Thanks so much for being courageous enough to share a little bit about your story.

Aleshia: Hi Kiylise and thank you so much for this opportunity.

Me: So tell us exactly what it is that you do

Aleshia: I take small businesses and entrepreneurs to the next level through impactful marketing strategies. I also work as a marketing and communications coordinator for a local non-profit here in Saint Louis, MO.

Me: Marketing is so critical for brand awareness and I’m not sure entrepreneurs really understand that.. I also have to give a huge kudos to your work in non-profit. Everyone knows my passion for youth development and my love for the nonprofit sector. So kudos to all of your fabness! Let’s jump right into the thrills of your life. Aleshia, What’s something you’re super passionate about?

Aleshia: I’m super passionate about helping entrepreneurs reach their self-defined levels of success. It can be overwhelming when you are starting a new venture and I feel society constantly beats over our heads what success should look, feel, and smell like. So, it's easy to get caught up in that whirlwind especially. That's why when I work with clients I tell them from the gate, you've already got the answers inside of you, I'm here to help you dive deep to bring them to the surface and when they accomplish whatever goal they set out to do, it makes me happy that I was able to contribute.

Me: Society certainly shows us the tip of the iceberg and lacks to inform us of the huge half beneath the water. I love that you help clients realize what’s already deep inside. I was just having a conversation about the importance of investing in YOU!. That certainly has been and still is a huge win during my entrepreneurial journey. Speaking of wins, What’s a huge triumph in your life?

Aleshia: Ahhhhh! "yikes", what is it? lol! Well, Hands down the biggest triumph of my life was nursing my mother back to health after she suffered a stroke in 2015. During that time. I was going to graduate school full-time and working full-time. My mother has lupus and due to complications she had a stroke and spent about six weeks in the hospital. It was a very difficult time, but while all of that was going on God literally had his hand on me guiding along the way. There would be times when I didn't think I was going to make it because of exhaustion, decision making overload, and everything else that came with it, but I was able to do it. My family and boyfriend were extremely supportive in the process. That has definitely been a major Win for me.

Me: That sounds like an incredible win. I’m glad to hear that you persevered and pressed through. Those are truly girl boss qualities. Also being able to be present and do so much while you had your own “stuff” is commendable. Triumphant to say the least!!! Did I mention Because Dreams Win! LOL, They do. So Aleshia, it’s time to spill the tea! Tell us about one mistake or lesson you’ve learned from during your journey thus far?

Aleshia: My tea!! OMG! Ok so I would say, don't do things before you have a particular level of comfort with them. I was so amped to host my first live webinar in August of 2016. My flyer was great, I had people ready to sign up, but the day that it was suppose to happen, Murphy's law kicked in. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. My equipment wasn't working properly, out of all the people that signed up (40), maybe 10 were on the actual webinar and I felt so defeated. But the fact of the matter is that I wasn't ready. Not only in the literal sense with proper equipment, but inside I wasn't ready. I didn't have a high enough comfort level with being on video that I self-sabotaged myself. That's why I tell people you don't have to be 100% ready to do anything, but you do need a particular level of comfort to get going. It actually had me questioning everything about myself. Imposter Syndrome kicked in, it was a mess. It took me a while to bounce back and to this day I haven't hosted another webinar. But I plan on doing so in the second half of this year.

Me: Piping hott Aleshia, piping hott! ☕️ Thanks for your transparency, I’m sure we all can learn from that. I know I certainly can. That feeling of defeat is so real and a lot of time entrepreneurs throw in the towel from one setback. I’m glad you learned from that and still made plans to do the legwork and prepare. Proper preparation prevents poor performance. Simple. Again thanks for letting us know. I’m here, we’re all here for your next Webinar, I’m sure it’ll be bomb. Tea and Triumph celebrates your spills and thrills and because I know you’ve bounced back, What’s your motto for 2017?

Aleshia: My motto for 2017 is get your house in order. There are so many times we want success, we want the accolades, we want the clients, and we want the money, but we don't have ourselves in position to receive all of that. Get your house in order--whatever that means to you and wherever it needs to happen--do it.

Me: I love it!!! I’m always on my soapbox about self care because it was something I truly didn’t value for awhile. Not anymore honey! I want my house to be all the way together. Enough with the deep stuff (lol). Let’s talk about some of your current favs, after all there’s nothing like good ole girl chat. What’s your fav tv show, book, drink, beauty product, etc. ? Deets girl, deets!

Aleshia: You know, I don't have a favorite television show, but I recently binge watched a bunch of sci-fi shows on Netflix such as, The OA, the 3%, and The Travelers (clearly I have a thing for sci-fi) lol! My favorite book is The Path Redefined: Getting to the Top on Your Own Terms by Lauren Maillian. My favorite drink is by this restaurant in Saint Louis named Yemenja and they have a drink called Brazilian Sunset that will put you into such a relaxed state you would think you were on a Brazilian beach. My favorite beauty product is NYX Tame and Frame Tinted Brow Pomade. I never leave home without it.

Me: I can’t wait to fall through St. Louis and try that Brazilian Sunset, it sounds amazing. Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your Tea & Triumph with us all. I’m absolutely positive that you’ve left us with some great lessons. I celebrate your hard times with your mom that made you stronger and your bounce backs in business. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know more about the Marketing Maven who is Aleshia Patterson. Thanks.

Aleshia: This was so great. Thanks for having me.
